Mandolin U Srinivas passed away this morning at Apollo Hospital in Chennai. He had been suffering from liver-related health complications for the past one year and had undergone a liver transplantation surgery which was a failure. Hailing from Palakol in Andhra Pradesh, the 45-year-old South Indian carnatic musician was a child prodigy and the youngest recipient of Padma Shri award in 1998 and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2010. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences. ‘The Prime Minister expressed grief on the passing away of renowned musician Shri Uppalapu Shrinivas,’ his official Twitter handle, @PMOIndia said. ‘The PM recalled the Mandolin Maestro’s dedication and long-standing contribution towards music & added that he will always be remembered,’ another tweet said.
